Sermon: God's Guidance (2003)

This sermon is about God's guidance. I wrote just simple notes.

It is very interesting how God is able to guide our lives. We need personal relationship with Him and be in touch with Him. We should communicate with Him through our prayers. Prayer is conversation with God.

We should give our lives under God´s control. We can read about His guidance in Scripture.

God did guide Elijah and told to him the exact place where he should go:

1. Kings 17:3 Jdi odtud a obrať se na východ a skryj se u potoka Kerítu proti Jordánu.

1 Kings 17:3  Get you hence, and turn you eastward, and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan.

God is able to send us to some exact place.

1 Kings 17:4  Z potoka budeš pít a přikázal jsem havranům, aby tě tam opatřovali potravou.

1 Kings 17:4  It shall be, that you shall drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.

When God sends us, He is able to care about us.

1 Kings 17:5  Šel tedy a učinil, jak řekl Hospodin. Usadil se u potoka Kerítu proti Jordánu.

1 Kings 17:5  So he went and did according to the word of Yahweh; for he went and lived by the brook Cherith, that is before the Jordan.

Obedience – Elijah was odedient and did accept God´s instructions.

It is very good when we accept everything what God tell to us.

Why God took out Elijah ? God wanted to protect him. God wanted to protect him and care about him. Hence when God sends us, He will protect us same as Elijah.

1 Kings 17:9  "Vstaň a jdi do Sarepty, jež je u Sidónu, a usaď se tam. Hle, přikázal jsem tam jedné vdově, aby tě opatřovala potravou."

1 Kings 17:9  Arise, get you to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there: behold,

I have commanded a widow there to sustain you.

Elijah acts according to God´s will. God care about him.

1 Kings 17:10 Vstal tedy a šel do Sarepty. Přišel ke vchodu do města, a hle, jedna vdova tam sbírá dříví. Zavolal na ni: "Naber mi prosím trochu vody do nádoby, abych se napil."

1 Kings 17:10 So he arose and went to Zarephath; and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks: and he called to her, and said, Please get me a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

Elijah is obedient and go to the place where God wants him. We should be obedient as Elijah.

1 Kings 17:10b – 15:

10b … and said, Please get me a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

11  As she was going to get it, he called to her, and said, Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.

12  She said, As Yahweh your God lives, I don't have a cake, but a handful of meal in the jar, and a little oil in the jar: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and bake it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

13  Elijah said to her, Don't be afraid; go and do as you have said; but make me of it a little cake first, and bring it forth to me, and afterward make for you and for your son.

14  For thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, The jar of meal shall not empty, neither shall the jar of oil fail, until the day that Yahweh sends rain on the earth.

15  She went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, ate many days.

God is able to care about us. Elijah made step of faith and this widow made this step, too.

Elijah could not know that God will make this miracle before it. God wanted to protect them, because He wanted them to be alive.

Step of faith ? Why did Elijah call to the widow and wanted for her to make bread and she did not laugh ?

Both of them did believe that God will help them and He did.

CONCLUSION

  1. Speak with God and have personal relationship with Him.

  2. Be obey and act according to God´s will same as Eliah.

  3. God is able to protect you and He is also able to care about you.

  4. Trust and believe Him, because God has the best plan for your life.
